About Forsyth, GA

Soon after the founding of Forsyth in 1822, it became the seat of Monroe County, Georgia the following year. In its beginning, land was divided into 2.5 acre lots to create gardens and open green areas. Within a few years, in 1827, the town held a jail, 70 houses and stores, an academy, and Baptist church.

Forsyth boomed with commercial growth in the mid-19th century with the arrival of the railroad. Tift College, the second oldest female founded college in the world, is part of Forsyth’s honorable beginning.

Only an hour south of bustling Atlanta, the town of Forsyth is known as a safe community to be a part of with a low cost of living and low unemployment. Its quietness and historical aspects bring in tourists across the nation to this pre-Civil War town.

Among them, you’ll see beautiful antebellum homes, the oldest magnolia tree in Georgia, and the historic Grist Mill. Plus, Forsyth’s town square is part of the National Register of Historic Places. Nearby Lake Juliette and Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge also offer residents endless outdoor adventures.

Our United Bank Main Street location is right in downtown Forsyth. Maybe you’re just here to breathe in some fresh Southern charm, or you’re one of the locals. We’re always here to help and serve the residents and people of Forsyth any way we can!
